Mit dem Royal Chitwan National Park wurde im Jahre 1973 der erste Nationalpark in Nepal gegründet. Dieser erstreckt sich auf einer Fläche von mehr als 900 km² und befindet sich in den südlichen Vorbergen des Himalaya. Unter den Einheimischen wird das Gebiet häufig auch als „Herz des Dschungels“ bezeichnet. Und der König dieses Dschungels ist der Bengalische Tiger, dessen Population sich in den letzten 40 Jahren gut erholt hat.
Mit seinen herrliche Landschaften und seiner artenreichen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt hat sich der Chitwan Nationalpark zu einem sehr beliebten Ausflugsziel für Reisende entwickelt, somit verwundert es nicht, dass er mittlerweile zu den größten touristischen Attraktionen Nepals zählt.
